Police from 50 Countries Gather in China

PHNOM PENH: China kicked off its second annual Global Public Security Forum on September 19 under the theme of "One World, Common Security." More than 500 law-enforcement officials, experts and scholars from some 50 countries and regions, including the UK, Thailand, Vietnam, South Africa and Saudi Arabia, and international organizations are attending the conference.

Leading the event, the Chinese police will host the China-Africa Peace and Security Forum, the Middle East Security Forum, the Beijing Xiangshan Forum and other dialogue platforms, to contribute to deepening exchanges and cooperation on security by combating cross-border crime, counter-terrorism, drug control, fugitive repatriation and other issues.

At the opening ceremony on Wednesday, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet sent a virtual address from Cambodia to wish the conference well and affirm Cambodia’s commitment to strengthening security measures on a global and regional scale. “The Royal Government of Cambodia is ready to contribute to the formulations of instruments, strategies, relevant policies to promote closer ties between law enforcement agencies,” he said.

Chinese police have provided law enforcement training and education to more than 20,000 police officers from law enforcement departments of 116 countries and have signed more than 400 government-to-government and department-to-department law enforcement cooperation agreements worldwide.
